The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has handed over the remains of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner to their relatives.
Details of the Incident
On Sunday, the couple was discovered deceased in their Brentwood residence, with the medical examiner later confirming their deaths resulted from multiple sharp force injuries.
Nick Reiner, their 32-year-old son, was taken into custody in Exposition Park on Sunday evening and is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents' deaths.
Legal Proceedings
Nick Reiner, who has a documented history of mental health and addiction problems, appeared in court on Wednesday wearing a blue suicide prevention smock and handcuffs. His next court date is scheduled for January 7.
Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell commented on the investigation during an Eyewitness News segment, stating, "It's just really beginning at this phase for all of us, the analysis. The technical investigation division does an in-depth and very thorough analysis of all the crime scene evidence. That will be ongoing. So, yeah, it is really truly a team effort."
