Authorities have reported that a woman from Chicago is now facing legal charges following a DUI-related collision in the western suburbs, which resulted in serious injuries to a family consisting of four members.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 12:12 p.m., near the intersection of Route 53 and the Illinois Prairie Path in Lombard.

According to Lombard police, the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Jaquelin Onofre Reyes of Chicago, was operating a Hummer SUV. She attempted to overtake vehicles ahead of her, leading to a collision with another car. Subsequently, she crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a northbound Infiniti SUV carrying a family of four, including two children aged 7 and 10.

Officials stated that a 10-year-old boy who sustained injuries "suffered extensive severe injuries has since been transferred to another medical facility for further surgery."

The DuPage County State's Attorney's office revealed that Onofre Reyes' blood alcohol concentration was measured at .238, nearly three times the legal limit.

She has been charged with four counts of Aggravated DUI - Great Bodily Harm, as confirmed by officials.

Onofre Reyes appeared in court on Wednesday and was released from custody while awaiting her trial.

Her next scheduled court appearance is set for January 20.
