Annual Holiday Initiative Takes Place

On Friday, Elks Lodge 112 in Sioux City, Iowa, carried out its yearly Christmas Basket Program, a significant community outreach effort.

The program aims to provide meals to as many individuals as possible during the holiday season. Local Elks members nominate recipients for the baskets.

"It's a humbling thing to be able to help people, and that's what we do here at the Elks Club," stated Mike Javanovic, chairman of the Christmas Basket Program. "We help as many people as we can, and that's what drives us to do more."

James Scott Haberer, exalted ruler for Elks Lodge 112, added, "We're probably the best-kept secret in Sioux City, and we sure wish we weren't. Because our membership, we do a lot. We do a lot of good things."

This tradition has been ongoing for more than a century. The baskets were prepared on Friday night, with distribution scheduled for Saturday morning.
