Court Documents Detail Kidnapping Case
Recent filings in a Florida federal court by the FBI have disclosed specifics regarding kidnapping allegations against three individuals who escaped from DeKalb County custody.
The complaint indicates that after their jailbreak, Stevenson Charles, Yusuf Minor, and Naod Yohannes arranged for a ride through the Lyft service.
The driver informed investigators that the booking appeared under a female name. Upon arrival, she became suspicious upon seeing three male passengers but proceeded to drive them.
However, upon reaching the destination, the situation turned violent. Instead of exiting the vehicle, the men placed a rope around her neck, bound her wrists, and forced her into the back seat.
She reported that they threatened to shoot her unless she complied with their instructions, which included moving funds from her savings to her debit cards.
After entering Florida, the driver attempted to flee but was assaulted. One of the men threatened to shoot, rape, and torture her.
Investigation and Apprehension
Authorities tracked the vehicle using license plate recognition systems in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
Agents discovered the group was staying at a short-term rental property in Miramar, Florida.
Law enforcement observed the car being operated by Charles with Yohannes as a passenger. When approached, the two men initiated a pursuit before stopping. Charles attempted to flee on foot and discarded a 9mm handgun. Both individuals were taken into custody.
When the victim and Minor were not located with them, officers returned to the rental residence.
There, they encountered Minor. After commands to exit, the victim emerged from the house instead. Minor surrendered shortly thereafter.
All three remain detained at the Broward County Jail.
