California Highway Patrol officers arrived at the scene on the westbound freeway near Lowell Avenue at 1:21 a.m. Saturday. CHP spokeswoman Officer Elizabeth Kravig reported that responders discovered multiple vehicles involved, including a Nissan Pathfinder that had overturned.
Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics pronounced one victim deceased at the location. Medical personnel transported at least one other person to a hospital in critical condition.
Traffic Impact and Investigation
The CHP issued a SigAlert, closing all westbound lanes at Lowell Avenue for an unspecified period while authorities investigated the crash's cause. The roadway remained closed until shortly before 7 a.m., when all lanes were reopened to traffic.
