Florida State Offices to Close for Extended Holiday Weekend

Florida state offices will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and December 26, 2025, following an executive order by Governor Ron DeSantis, granting employees a five-day weekend.

Florida State Offices to Close for Extended Holiday Weekend

Florida state government offices will observe closures on multiple dates during the 2025 holiday season, as announced by Governor Ron DeSantis.

Holiday Closures Announced

In a recent directive, Governor DeSantis has confirmed that all executive state buildings in Florida will be shut on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. This closure is in addition to previously scheduled holidays, including Christmas Day on December 25 and Friday, December 26.

Employee Leave Details

According to an official communication, employees who are not required to work on these designated days will receive paid administrative leave. "All eligible employees released from duty on the designated days will be granted paid administrative leave," the email stated.

For those in essential roles who must continue working, the state has arranged for them to take an equivalent amount of administrative leave by June 30, 2026.

Extended Holiday Weekend

The addition of December 24 as a holiday means state workers will enjoy a five-day weekend, aligning with federal holiday schedules. This follows an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on December 18, 2025, which declared December 24 and December 26 as federal holidays, providing federal employees with a similar extended break.

Previous Holiday Additions

Earlier in November, Governor DeSantis had already expanded the holiday calendar for state employees by including three extra days: the day before Thanksgiving, the day after Christmas, and the day after New Year's. "Our state employees have worked hard throughout the year," DeSantis said in November. "I hope they enjoy additional time off with loved ones and friends this holiday season."

Holiday Status Confirmation

Christmas is officially recognized as a paid holiday for state agencies in Florida. Similarly, Christmas Eve has been designated as a federal holiday, as per the executive order issued on December 18, 2025, which mandates closures for federal departments and agencies on December 24 and December 26, with certain exceptions.
