Legislative Proposal Targets Registration Stickers
Florida lawmakers have introduced a proposal that would eliminate the need for yellow vehicle registration stickers beginning in 2026. The legislation, known as House Bill 841 and Senate Bill 982, is scheduled for consideration during the regular session starting on January 13.
The initiative seeks to simplify the registration process, offering potential cost savings for both drivers and county administrations. Sponsored by Rep. Tom Fabricio, R-Miami Lakes, and Sen. Ana Maria Rodriguez, R-Doral, the measure emphasizes that law enforcement agencies already have the capability to check registration status electronically.
This shift is intended to update a system that currently depends on physical decals, cutting down on superfluous costs and minimizing opportunities for fraudulent activities.
Sen. Rodriguez remarked, “In an era of real-time digital verification, clinging to physical decals is outdated. This common-sense change reduces burdens on taxpayers, prevents fraud and streamlines government, exactly what Floridians expect from their leaders.”
Under the proposed bills, HB 841 and SB 982, vehicle owners will still be obligated to meet all current registration and renewal mandates, preserving the core aspects of the registration framework.
