Memorial Service Details

A public memorial will be conducted for Ed Stoner, the former mayor of Fort Collins and prominent figure in Old Town development, in early January. The service is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. on January 14 in the Organ Recital Hall at Colorado State University's University Center for the Arts, located at 1400 Remington Street.

Stoner's Life and Career

Ed Stoner, who passed away on November 24 at 80 years old, was a longtime resident of Fort Collins with deep community ties. He attended Fort Collins High School in the same Remington Street building that now houses the University Center for the Arts, where he first met his future wife Phyllis.

After completing his education at Colorado State University with a degree in real estate and finance, Stoner built a career spanning several decades in commercial real estate. His public service included serving on the Fort Collins City Council from 1983 to 1989, with his term as mayor occurring from 1988 to 1989.

Following his time in city government, Stoner became president of Old Town Square Properties, where he oversaw leasing and management operations for Old Town Square until his retirement in 2016. His dedication to the area earned him the informal title "the mayor of Old Town Square" among community members.

"The service will begin at 1 p.m. Jan. 14 in the Organ Recital Hall at Colorado State University's University Center for the Arts, 1400 Remington St.," according to Ed's widow, Phyllis Stoner.
