Fatal Accident Claims Life in Greene County
A tragic incident occurred in Greene County on Saturday morning, resulting in the death of a local man.
Authorities from the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Xenia Post responded to a collision at the intersection of Paintersville-New Jasper and Hussey Roads around 8:30 a.m.
The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Leroy Arrington, who was known to his loved ones as Darrell.
Family Remembers a Loving Grandfather
Darrell's family shared their grief with a reporter, describing him as a cherished father, grandfather, and husband.
His wife, Heather Arrington, recounted his recent activities: “He just went and bought his granddaughter a million things for Christmas,” she said. “We just got back from Walmart, and the mall, and he just.. Everything he picked up was for her.”
Mrs. Arrington added, “He’s been working a lot of overtime for Christmas this week. So, he went in really early this morning, and he was in his work truck.”
On Friday night, Darrell had been purchasing Christmas gifts for his daughter and granddaughter, but he will not be present to see them opened.
Details of the Collision
According to state troopers, a 29-year-old man was driving a pickup truck with Darrell as a passenger when the driver did not stop at a stop sign.
The pickup was then struck by a box truck.
Both drivers were taken to nearby hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Unfortunately, Darrell did not survive the crash.
His sister, Tracey Arrington, expressed disbelief: “He said that he died. I thought he was lying, and it couldn’t be true because he was there.”
The family emphasized Darrell's joy in being a grandfather. His 4-year-old granddaughter will face Christmas without him, but Tracey believes his affection will endure.
“She’s 4, but going on 12, so she knows her papa from the back of her hand,” Tracey said. “So, she knows who her grandpa is.”
