Iran Executes Student Accused of Israeli Espionage

On Saturday, Iranian authorities executed Aghil Keshavarz, a student from Shahrood University, following his conviction for espionage activities on behalf of Israel.

In response to the execution, Iran's Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi criticized the regime in a social media post. "The Islamic Republic’s murder of Aghil Keshavarz is clear evidence of its weakness. Khamenei and his regime are taking out revenge for their defeat in the 12 Day War by murdering Iran’s innocent youth based on lies," Pahlavi stated.

He further added, "This regime’s greatest fear is from the people of Iran and their great national uprising. The Iranian nation’s will, however, is stronger than the regime’s suppression and fear-mongering."

Pahlavi concluded, "I express my sincere condolences to the family of Aghil Keshavarz. I assure them, and all those seeking justice, that the people of Iran will end Khamenei’s reign of terror and his criminal regime and that the perpetrators of these crimes will face justice."

Espionage Allegations and Trial

Keshavarz was accused of photographing military installations. He was arrested in June after the 12-Day War between Israel and Iran and reportedly confessed to the charges.

Human rights organizations have denounced the trial, claiming it lacked proper legal procedures and that Keshavarz was tortured by IRGC intelligence, with his family also being threatened.

In 2025 alone, Iran has executed over 1,000 individuals. Following the June War, officials announced the arrest of 21,000 people suspected of collaborating with Israel. Analysts note that genuine Israeli spies are typically handled discreetly rather than through public executions.
