Health authorities in New York City have published the most favored baby names for the year 2024.
Leading Names for Girls
Among female infants, the five most selected names are Mia, Emma, Sophia, Leah, and Isabella.
Leading Names for Boys
For male babies, the top choices include Noah, Liam, Ethan, David, and Lucas.
Out of 65,222 births recorded last year, Noah was given 722 times, while Mia was chosen 422 times.
These names have displaced Liam and Emma, which had held the top positions since 2016 and 2017.
"Every year, our list of the most popular baby names serves as a reminder of who we are as a city and who the next generation of New Yorkers will be," stated Acting Health Commissioner Dr. Michelle Morse. "We love to see so many little New Yorkers bringing hope and joy into the city. As we enter the new year, we recommit ourselves to creating a New York City where our children can live long, healthy lives."
