On Sunday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov informed Ria Novosti, the Russian state news agency, that President Vladimir Putin is willing to hold discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Peskov noted that Putin views potential talks positively, provided there is shared political intent from both parties.
The French administration responded favorably to Peskov's remarks, with reports indicating that Macron's team will determine the format of the discussions in the coming days.
Earlier, on Friday, Macron expressed that engaging directly with Putin could benefit Europe and Ukraine, stating, "Otherwise, we are discussing among ourselves with negotiators who will negotiate on their own with the Russians. That is not optimal."
Recent diplomatic efforts included talks in Berlin last Sunday and Monday, involving Ukrainian, American, and European representatives to address the conflict in Ukraine, which began nearly four years ago with Russia's involvement.
In Miami, negotiations continued over the weekend, with US officials planning to share outcomes from Berlin with Russian counterparts. Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev characterized the initial discussions as constructive.
