Russian General Fatally Targeted in Moscow Car Bombing

Explosion Claims General's Life

In Moscow, a Russian general has been killed following a car bombing, according to official statements.

The incident occurred on Monday morning when an explosive device placed beneath a vehicle detonated, resulting in the death of Lt Gen Fanil Sarvarov, as confirmed by Russia's Investigative Committee.

Sarvarov, aged 56, served as the head of the operational training department within the armed forces.

Authorities are examining the possibility that Ukrainian intelligence services may have been involved in planting the bomb. Ukraine has not issued any statement regarding the event.

Investigation Underway

Investigative teams have been dispatched to the location, a parking area near residential buildings in southern Moscow.

Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, several military figures have been attacked in the Russian capital.

In April, Gen Yaroslav Moskalik died in a similar car bomb attack in Moscow, and in December 2024, Gen Igor Kirillov was killed by a remotely detonated device hidden in a scooter.

A Ukrainian source previously informed the BBC that Kirillov's death was carried out by Ukraine's security service, though this has not been officially confirmed. Ukraine maintains a policy of not publicly acknowledging responsibility for such targeted actions.
