An armed carjacking in Southfield led to the arrest of two people in Monroe early Saturday morning.
Early Morning Investigation
Monroe County Central Dispatch received information from the Southfield Police Department shortly after 5 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, regarding a gray Nissan Altima stolen hours earlier in their jurisdiction.
Using the vehicle details, Monroe County Sheriff Deputy Austin Graham began reviewing FLOCK security camera footage across Monroe County. At 5:32 a.m., Graham observed the vehicle on camera moving eastbound on West Seventh Street from South Telegraph Road.
Apprehension at Gas Station
Deputies converged on the area to locate the vehicle. At 5:35 a.m., Deputy Brent Thomas found it at the Sunoco gas station in the 600 block of South Monroe Street. The two occupants had just entered the gas station but were taken into custody without incident upon exiting, according to police.
The suspects, an 18-year-old man from Ypsilanti and an 18-year-old woman from Monroe, were lodged in the Monroe County Jail on charges of receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle.
The Southfield Police Department was notified of the vehicle's recovery and will continue their investigation.
