Teens Arrested for Bringing Firearms to School
In White Center, two 15-year-old boys have been arrested and are currently under electronic home monitoring following an incident at Evergreen High School last week where they brought handguns onto campus.
Prosecutors revealed that another student informed school officials about at least one boy carrying a firearm in his backpack. This led to the detention of both teenagers and the recovery of two handguns equipped with 30-round magazines.
"There was another student who alerted authorities to say, 'Hey, this kid's got a gun in his backpack,' which shows that even other students are concerned when they see behavior like this," said Casey McNerthney, director of communications with the King County Prosecutor's Office.
The discovery prompted a school lockdown and brought multiple King County deputies to the scene.
The charges against the teenagers include illegal possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon. Both have been placed on electronic home monitoring as their cases proceed.
"When you bring a gun to school, that's not a case that goes to diversion; that's got to go through the traditional court system," McNerthney stated.
