Awkward Moment at Conservative Festival
During a Sunday appearance at a Turning Point USA festival, rapper Nicki Minaj created an uncomfortable situation when describing Vice President JD Vance. While praising conservative leaders, Minaj referred to Vance as "the assassin" before immediately showing signs of embarrassment.
The festival was organized by Turning Point USA, the conservative youth movement founded by Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot in September during a campus event in Orem, Utah.
Widow's Compassionate Response
Following the remark, Minaj fell silent as audience laughter filled the awkward pause. Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk's widow who was also on stage, quickly stepped in to comfort the rapper.
"Dear young men, you have amazing role models like our handsome, dashing president, and you have amazing role models like the assassin, JD Vance, our vice president," Minaj had said before lowering the microphone and covering her mouth.
Kirk told Minaj, "Trust me, there's nothing new under the sun that I have not heard, so you're fine... I love you. You have to laugh about it truly. You say what you want to say, because I know your heart and I will not judge that."
Aftermath and White House Recognition
Minaj expressed gratitude for Kirk's understanding and continued her speech after a brief pause. Later that day, the White House shared a video clip from the festival featuring Minaj stating, "I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president."
The rapper reposted the White House content with additional photos and a comment: "My darling, you did it. We're good. Love you."
