On Tuesday, ex-prime minister Naftali Bennett made a public appeal for Israel's security and law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the Qatargate scandal.
He emphasized the severity of the case, labeling it as the most significant act of betrayal in the nation's history. Bennett pointed out that unlike past espionage incidents involving lesser-known individuals, this matter implicates top-level officials.
While Bennett clarified that he does not accuse Netanyahu of directly ordering actions for Qatar, he stressed that the prime minister should have been the first to respond decisively when the affair came to light. He questioned Netanyahu's ongoing silence and alleged cover-up.
PMO's Strong Rebuttal
The Prime Minister's Office issued a forceful response, denouncing Bennett's statements as fabricated and malicious. They dismissed the claims as "blood libels" and accused Bennett of being a deceitful figure.
The PMO stated that the individuals mentioned were never part of the Prime Minister's Office. They further criticized Bennett for past political alliances, accusing him of betrayal and predicting he would attempt to form a government with extreme left-wing and Muslim Brotherhood support.
Additionally, the PMO alleged that Bennett is spreading falsehoods to distract from serious information obtained from a hack of his phone, which they claim was withheld from the public. They noted that a court has already ruled the Qatargate allegations to be baseless, with no criminal offense found.
