A 26-year-old Brockton man has been charged with multiple offenses, including motor vehicle homicide, following a deadly collision in Stoughton that left one dead and another injured.

Brockton Man Faces Charges After Fatal Stoughton Crash

Authorities have announced charges against a Brockton resident after a tragic incident in Stoughton resulted in a fatality and injuries.

The collision took place at approximately 10:40 a.m. on Saturday. It began when police from Brockton tried to pull over a pick-up truck, leading to a chase that entered Stoughton. The vehicle eventually crashed into a sedan at the crossing of Pleasant Street and Prospect Street.

An 84-year-old man from Stoughton, who was operating the sedan, died from the impact. A 78-year-old female passenger in the same car was taken to a nearby hospital by Stoughton Fire Department personnel with injuries; her current status remains unclear.

After the accident, the driver of the pick-up truck, identified as 26-year-old Jason Ortiz from Brockton, left the area but was later apprehended by law enforcement.

Ortiz is facing several charges:

  • motor vehicle homicide
  • leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death
  • leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury
  • leaving the scene of an accident with property damage
  • failing to stop for police

An investigation into the crash is being conducted by multiple agencies, including the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, the MSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, MSP Crime Scene Services Section, and Stoughton Police.

Ortiz is expected to appear in Stoughton District Court for arraignment on Monday.
