Community Unites in Prayer
On Tuesday, a gathering of more than one hundred individuals took place inside the church at Brown University. They came together to offer prayers for those affected by the mass shooting that occurred on campus just days earlier.
For numerous students and alumni, being present together held significant importance as they grieved the loss of two students on Saturday. Several others remain hospitalized, recovering from gunshot wounds.
"It's important in that it's better than sitting alone and being sad and depressed," stated Chris Kremer, a Brown University Alum.
A Symbol of Support
Dan Beazley traveled all the way from Michigan to participate, carrying a large cross with him.
"It's 65 pounds, it's 10 feet tall," said Beazley. "My ministry is this cross that I'm holding and I take it to the darkest situations around the country."
He mentioned that he has been encouraging students to pray during this difficult period.
"When the community comes together like this and they continue to do that you'll see the healing happen at such a much more rapid pace if they don't do this," said Beazley.
Ongoing Investigation
Simultaneously, many attendees expressed continued unease as the search for the shooter persists.
On Tuesday, police released new, enhanced video footage showing a person of interest walking near the campus shortly before the gunfire erupted.
"People always want to see wrongdoers brought to justice," remarked Kremer. "I'm no different and I certainly hope for the sake of people who you know are working and learning and schools around this country that he gets caught soon."
Providence Police and the FBI are asking residents in the vicinity of the campus to review their surveillance camera recordings from the days preceding the shooting. This effort aims to help trace the movements of the individual under investigation.
