The violent episode took place at approximately 5:40 p.m. on December 16. The location was the 700-block of South Cicero Avenue, as the bus was nearing the I-290 interchange from Roosevelt Road.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the assault resulted in the victim requiring extensive medical care and remaining hospitalized.

Investigators have publicized descriptions and surveillance imagery of three male suspects sought for aggravated battery on public transportation. The first is described as a male in his late teens wearing a blue jacket. The second is a male in his mid-to-late teens donning a red jacket with a fur-trimmed hood. The third suspect is a male in his early to mid-teens, seen in a gray jacket and a white hood.
