The Dixon Family YMCA has established a management arrangement with the YMCA of Rock River Valley, effective December 1, to improve its operational framework and service delivery.
This collaboration, backed by funding from YMCA of the USA, is designed to offer leadership assistance, additional resources, and mentorship to foster the Dixon Y's development. "This partnership is a bridge to the future," stated Ermir Ramadani, Dixon Family YMCA Board president. "It allows us to strengthen our local YMCA, bring in proven expertise and continue the incredible momentum that has been building in recent months. This partnership gives us the tools and support to achieve our community’s vision for a thriving, sustainable YMCA."
Local governance bodies, including the city of Dixon and Discover Dixon, have been collaborating with the Dixon YMCA Board to address financial stability, enhance childcare services, and bolster program offerings.
Leadership Support from Rock River Valley
Brent Pentenburg, CEO of the YMCA of Rock River Valley, will provide guidance to the Dixon YMCA's leadership team and aid in recruiting a new executive director for the local branch. "YMCAs across the country are realizing opportunities to collaborate," Pentenburg said. "By sharing knowledge and resources, we can create efficiencies and expand the programs and services that benefit members and families. We’re excited to help strengthen the Dixon YMCA while preserving its deep community roots."
The Rock River Valley YMCA, headquartered in Rockford, serves approximately 50,000 individuals through six locations and is a major nonprofit employer in northern Illinois. Throughout this partnership, the Dixon Family YMCA will maintain its independent status under local oversight.
Endorsement from Community Figures
Tom Demmer, President of LCIDA, praised the initiative as a demonstration of proactive leadership. "This is about building for the future," Demmer said. "The Dixon YMCA Board and staff have done tremendous work to stabilize the organization. Partnering with the YMCA of Rock River Valley ensures our community can continue that progress with added capacity and expertise."
Amanda Wike, executive director of Discover Dixon, highlighted the benefits of combining external support with local identity. "It’s the best of both worlds — a collaboration that strengthens what’s already great about Dixon and positions us for the next 50 years," Wike said.
Established in 1872 and located on Galena Avenue since 1971, the Dixon Family YMCA offers childcare, youth activities, fitness, and aquatic programs to families in the Sauk Valley area.
