In Douglas County, a man has entered a guilty plea for the murder of his wife, which occurred on her birthday in October, prior to being shot by law enforcement.
October Incident Details
On October 4, Volanta Walker engaged in an argument with his wife, Sabrina Walker, at their residence.
After Volanta Walker retrieved a firearm, Sabrina Walker fled the home. Prosecutors state that he pursued her into the front yard, where he shot her in the head and abdomen.
She was declared deceased at the scene.
Sabrina Walker's adult daughter observed the shooting and contacted emergency services while escaping from the property.
Police Response and Sentencing
Upon arrival, Volanta Walker attempted to flee with the weapon. As officers approached, he aimed the gun at them and then at himself.
An officer fired, striking him in the leg. Prosecutors later noted that Volanta Walker sustained a minor injury to his chin from his own firearm.
Volanta Walker has multiple previous felony convictions on his record.
Judge Deah Warren imposed a life sentence, along with an extra 25 years for malice murder, two counts of aggravated assault against peace officers, and firearm-related charges.
