Residents Awakened by Violent Impact

In the early hours of Sunday, around 3 a.m., a loud collision disturbed the quiet of a residential neighborhood on Washington Street in Abington. Local residents reported being jolted awake by the force of the impact.

"I felt a shaking of the house," said Emma Dancy, who was about to fall asleep when she heard the crash.

Her neighbor, Wally Heleen, shared a similar experience. "Well, it's scary because first of all, you think it's your house," Heleen stated. "That's what we thought because it actually vibrated."

Chaotic Scene Unfolds

Upon rushing outside, the neighbors discovered a devastating scene. A vehicle had overturned and was tightly wedged between Dancy's home and the neighboring fence. The car's front windshield was shattered.

"I see on the side of the house there was a car it was flipped over," Dancy recounted.

The two residents immediately approached the wreckage to check on the occupants. "We were trying to see if anyone was ok," Dancy explained. "We were knocking and no one was responding."

Emergency Response and Rescue

Abington Fire and Police departments arrived on the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Emergency crews found two 20-year-old men trapped inside the severely damaged vehicle.

Firefighters had to employ specialized rescue tools, often referred to as the "jaws of life," to extricate the victims from the wreckage. Both men were transported in critical condition to area hospitals—South Shore Hospital and Boston Medical Center.

"I hope those two people are okay," Dancy expressed concern for the victims.

Property Damage and Aftermath

The violent crash caused significant collateral damage. Debris was scattered across the area, the structure of Dancy's home sustained damage, and electrical issues were reported.

Reflecting on the event, Dancy emphasized the human cost above all. "You can always get another house, you can't replace a human being," she said.

The incident led to a complete closure of the street as first responders worked at the scene. "Before we knew it, there were police, fire, everything, this whole street was blocked off," Heleen noted.
