Police Activity in Glendale Neighborhood
On Tuesday afternoon, law enforcement officers surrounded a residential building in Glendale. This action followed an earlier police investigation in the same area that required the response of specialized bomb disposal units.
The incident occurred at an apartment complex located near the intersection of Los Feliz Road and Gardena Avenue. Authorities from the Glendale Police Department were executing a search warrant at the location. The scene was secured and cleared by approximately 4:30 p.m.
Sequence of Events
This police operation was connected to an investigation that started on Monday evening. During a traffic stop around 8 p.m. in the 3000 block of West Los Feliz Boulevard, a male individual was apprehended. Police officials stated the individual was taken into custody "on outstanding warrants," though no additional specifics were provided at that time.
The vehicle belonging to the suspect was transported to a tow yard situated at Flower Street and Sonora Avenue. An examination of this vehicle on Tuesday morning raised concerns, leading to the involvement of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad.
As a precaution, the tow yard and adjacent areas were evacuated while bomb squad technicians conducted a thorough inspection of the automobile. After determining the vehicle was safe, the bomb squad personnel were subsequently redirected to another location on Los Feliz Boulevard.
Follow-Up Search
Glendale police confirmed that around noon on Tuesday, they carried out a search warrant at an apartment believed to be linked to the ongoing tow yard investigation. This search was initiated based on suspicious items discovered during the earlier examination of the vehicle.
Residents of the apartment building reported being awakened by police officers knocking on their doors. The officers instructed them to evacuate their homes due to a potential bomb threat and the ensuing investigation.
Authorities have not disclosed whether any concerning items were found inside the apartment or if additional individuals were detained during Tuesday's operations. A Glendale police spokesperson clarified that this investigation is unrelated to the Turtle Island Liberation Front terror probe. Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were present to assist local authorities with the case.
