Governor's Year-End Review
In a recent interview, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine provided insights into the state's progress during 2025, highlighting several initiatives that have benefited residents across various sectors.
Educational Advancements
"I think one of the most important things we've been doing is just really focusing on kids' reading," DeWine stated during the conversation. The governor emphasized the implementation of The Science of Reading approach, which has become a mandatory component in teacher preparation programs at Ohio universities. "They can have different curriculum, but they have to focus on this. Some schools were always doing it, but some schools were not," he explained regarding the new educational standards.
Economic Development Success
The administration's economic development efforts have yielded significant results according to the governor. "Ohio is hot at this point. It really, really is. We're seeing some great, great companies come to Ohio," DeWine remarked. He specifically mentioned Joby Aviation's recent announcement about expanding their manufacturing operations at Dayton International Airport. "A lot of these jobs of the future. So we want to continue that and continue to push to bring those jobs," he added about the state's economic momentum.
Public Safety Initiatives
Public safety remains another priority area for the governor. Earlier this month, additional state troopers were deployed to Dayton to address violent crime concerns. "The most important thing in fighting crime is to go after the repeat violent offenders and lock them up," DeWine emphasized regarding the administration's approach to crime reduction.
Looking Forward
As 2026 approaches, which will mark his final year in office, DeWine expressed determination to continue his work. "When I see that clock running, I know that I'll be out of office in a little over a year. I think what it really does is it just energizes me more," he said about the upcoming transition period.
