Serious Interstate Accident Under Investigation
A severe traffic incident occurred on Interstate 70 in Hopewell Township during the morning of December 23, resulting in critical injuries for one driver.
According to Ohio State Highway Patrol's Lt. Kristi Mistovich on December 24, the collision involved a 2018 Chrysler driven by James Kramer, 80, of Newark. The vehicle was traveling eastbound near mile marker 148 when it departed from the right side of the highway and collided with a stationary 2024 tractor trailer on the shoulder.
Emergency responders transported Kramer to Genesis Hospital for treatment. Hospital officials confirmed to the Times Recorder that he remained in critical condition throughout the morning of December 24.
The driver of the tractor trailer, identified as 36-year-old Antonio Perkinson from Powder Springs, Georgia, escaped the incident without injuries.
The accident took place at approximately 8:28 a.m. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office along with Hopewell Fire and EMS personnel.
