On Saturday, Iranian authorities carried out the execution of an individual found guilty of espionage activities on behalf of Israel, according to official reports.
The judiciary stated that the man was also connected to Iranian opposition organizations, marking another instance in the long-standing covert conflict between Iran and Israel.
In recent years, Iran has frequently imposed death penalties on those it accuses of collaborating with Israeli intelligence services and aiding their operations within the country.
The Oslo-based Iran Human Rights group claimed on social media platform X that the executed individual was a 27-year-old architecture student named Aghil Keshavarz. The group asserted that his conviction was "based on confessions extracted under torture."
Rise in Executions for Espionage Charges
Tensions between Iran and Israel intensified in June when Israel conducted strikes on multiple targets inside Iranian territory, including operations involving Mossad commandos deployed deep within the country.
This year has seen a notable increase in executions of Iranians convicted of spying for Israel, with several death sentences being carried out in recent months.
