Midwest Fuel Costs Drop Again
For the second week in a row, gasoline prices in the Midwest region have decreased. On Monday, the average cost for a gallon of regular fuel stood at $2.60, as reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). This marks a decline from the previous week's average of $2.69 per gallon.
Compared to last month, the region's average fuel price has dropped by approximately 25 cents. Over the past year, prices in the Midwest have fluctuated, reaching a high of $3.10 on April 7, 2025, and a low of $2.60 on December 22, 2025.
One year ago, the average price in the Midwest was notably higher at $2.94 per gallon, representing a 12% decrease from the current level.
Comparison with National Figures
The national average gas price last week was $2.84 per gallon. This means prices in the Midwest region are about 8.3% lower than the country's overall average. The current national average is also down from the prior week's figure of $2.90 per gallon.
The EIA's data for the Midwest region encompasses multiple states, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
