Incident on Carnival Conquest
On Sunday, December 21, an altercation occurred aboard the Carnival Conquest cruise ship while it was sailing near the Bahamas. According to official reports, Paetra Ann Grandsberry from Saint Paul, Minnesota, became involved in a physical confrontation with a teenage boy.
Security personnel on the vessel were notified about a disturbance involving young individuals. When approached, Grandsberry expressed being "extremely upset" because her two sons had reportedly been "attacked by several kids on the cruise ship."
Arrest and Charges
The Carnival Conquest returned to Port Miami on Monday, December 22, where Grandsberry was taken into custody. She now faces formal child abuse charges related to the incident.
In her statement to authorities, Grandsberry claimed she "ran up on the victim and accidently (sic) fell on top of (him)." She also admitted using offensive language toward the teenager during the encounter.
Victim's Account
The teenage boy provided a different version of events to investigators. He stated he was simply walking through a hallway when he noticed a group of people running and decided to join them, concerned they might be fleeing from danger.
According to his testimony, Grandsberry approached him from behind, "tackling him to the floor and grabbing him by his collar and pulling him up." The victim further alleged that Grandsberry encouraged her children to assault him, identifying him as "one of the kids who attacked my son."
Following her arrest, Grandsberry was detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami. Jail records indicate she was released after posting a $2,500 bond.
