Whitney Brown-Tune is facing the heartbreaking task of arranging her daughter's funeral just before Christmas, a time that should be filled with joy. The 13-year-old Jaleeyah Tune, affectionately known as "Lee Lee," was killed in a shooting incident on Sunday afternoon.
"She was my miracle baby," her mother expressed to ABC11. "Born premature, she came home in 2012 right before Christmas, and now she's leaving right before Christmas. She was a helper who was friendly, smart, and bubbly. Just had this personality that we aren't going to get back."
Goldsboro authorities have taken three teenage boys into custody related to the case. The shooting occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Alpha Court.
J'Sheeyah Tune, the victim's sister, recounted the tragic moment: "I held her in her last moments." She described how they were walking home after getting food when unknown boys emerged from bushes and opened fire. "She looked so scared. I was scared myself. I hate to see her like that. There was blood all on my hands. I didn't want to wipe it off. I still felt her presence. I felt her still with me," she said.
"She didn't deserve this at all. People are very cruel. Now, I have to live on without my sister," J'Sheeyah added.
Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. One of the suspects appeared in court on Monday, with the others expected to follow this week.
