The U.S. Department of Labor announced on Thursday that initial applications for unemployment benefits in Ohio experienced a reduction during the previous week.

According to the agency's report, new claims, which serve as an indicator of workforce reductions, decreased to 8,636 for the week concluding on December 13. This figure represents a decline from the 10,115 claims recorded in the preceding week.

On a national level, seasonally adjusted unemployment claims fell to 224,000 last week. This marks a decrease of 13,000 from the prior week's total of 237,000.

Among the states, Rhode Island reported the most substantial percentage rise in weekly claims, with an increase of 46.8%. Conversely, Georgia experienced the largest percentage decrease, with new claims falling by 50.4%.
