The data indicates that new jobless claims, which serve as an indicator of layoff activity, reached 489 for the week ending December 13. This represents a reduction from the 671 claims filed in the preceding week.

National Trends

On a national level, seasonally adjusted unemployment claims fell to 224,000 last week. This marks a decrease of 13,000 from the previous week's total of 237,000.

Among states, Rhode Island experienced the most significant percentage increase in weekly claims, with a rise of 46.8%. In contrast, Georgia recorded the largest percentage decrease, with new claims dropping by 50.4%.
