Residents of Greenville and Spartanburg counties in South Carolina still have an opportunity to cast their votes in upcoming special elections.
Early voting concludes on Dec. 19, with polling stations opening on Dec. 23 for the selection of representatives in South Carolina Senate District 12 and House District 21.
These elections were triggered by the departure of former Sen. Roger Nutt, who stepped down for health-related reasons. In November, Lee Bright secured victory in a three-way Republican primary contest.
Bright, recognized for his staunch conservative views, has prior experience serving in the state senate.
No Democratic candidate is officially listed on the ballot to challenge Bright.
Nevertheless, Democratic supporters have recently rallied behind Steve Evered, a retired government affairs director from Michelin, as a write-in option. Evered and a group of volunteers have been actively engaging with voters across the district.
In House District 21, Dianne Mitchell emerged victorious from a Republican primary runoff. With no Democratic contenders on the ballot, Mitchell's name will appear as the sole candidate in the general election.
Similarly, in Greenville, Democrats have endorsed a write-in candidate after the primary. Dexter Reaves, a member of the Greenville County Human Relations Commission, has stepped forward to fill this role.
Due to holiday schedules, election authorities in both counties have combined several voting sites to streamline the process.
