A man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting another man and his dog during a confrontation at Simpson Park in Gainesville.

Authorities in Hall County have identified the individual accused of a fatal shooting that occurred at a local park.

According to investigators, the incident took place on Sunday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. at Simpson Park. A confrontation reportedly began between two dogs, one belonging to the victim.

The suspect, Todd Alexander Stalcup, is said to have used a firearm to shoot both the man and his pet.

Stalcup, aged 52, now faces serious charges, including malice murder and felony murder.

Reports indicate that the suspect initially stayed at the location but later attempted to depart in his vehicle. Law enforcement officers apprehended him as he was exiting the park area.

The victim, identified as 70-year-old Terry Wayne Loden from Gainesville, was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. His dog also did not survive the attack.

The sheriff's office has stated that the investigation into this matter is ongoing.
