Collision Sends Three to Hospitals

On Sunday afternoon, a serious collision occurred in Hillsdale County involving a pickup truck and an Amish horse-drawn buggy, leading to three people being taken to medical facilities.

According to the Hillsdale County Sheriff Department, two individuals from the buggy were airlifted by medical helicopters, while a third was transported via ground ambulance from the scene of the accident.

Details of the Response and Injuries

Authorities reported that a 32-year-old man was flown by Promedica Air Ambulance to Michigan Medicine. A juvenile patient was transported by Life Flight to Mott Children’s Hospital. Another juvenile was taken to Hillsdale Hospital by the Reading Emergency Unit ambulance service.

Sheriff's deputies were called to the intersection of Mead Road and W. Territorial Road at approximately 1:49 p.m. on Sunday following reports of the crash.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado that had collided with the buggy. Preliminary findings indicate the Silverado, operated by a 31-year-old resident of Montgomery, Michigan, was traveling south on Mead Road when it struck the buggy.

The buggy was carrying the 32-year-old man who was later airlifted, a 31-year-old woman, and five juveniles, all from Montgomery, Michigan.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Michigan State Police, the Montgomery Fire Department, the Camden Fire Department, Steuben County EMS from Indiana, and the Reading Emergency Unit.

The incident is currently under investigation by authorities.
