Trump Unveils New Naval Fleet Initiative
On Monday, President Donald Trump disclosed intentions to develop a novel class of battleships for the U.S. Navy, which he referred to as the "Trump class." He made this announcement from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, accompanied by key officials including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, State Secretary Marco Rubio, and Navy Secretary John Phelan.
Trump emphasized the capabilities of these vessels, stating, "They will be the fastest, the biggest, and by far, 100 times more powerful than any battleship ever built." The initiative will commence with the construction of two ships, with plans to expand the fleet to up to 25 vessels, all named after the president.
The project aims to bolster domestic manufacturing and reinforce global respect for the United States. Trump described the fleet as a "Golden Fleet," aligning with his vision of a "Golden Age" for the nation during his second term. He expressed hope that these ships would not be required for active use.
This move is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to reshape the U.S. military, advocating for a "warrior ethos" and a strategy centered on "peace through strength." The announcement underscores a focus on enhancing naval power and national security.
