Meteorologists predict sunny skies and temperatures reaching the 70s on Christmas Day in the CSRA, significantly warmer than typical late December conditions.

Unseasonably Warm Christmas Forecast for Augusta Region

Residents of the Augusta area anticipating a snowy Christmas may find themselves disappointed by the weather outlook. Forecasts indicate that Christmas Day will bring mostly clear and sunny conditions, with temperatures climbing into the 70s across the CSRA region.

"A cold front passed through yesterday, keeping conditions dry," stated Drew Hickok, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Columbia, South Carolina, on Monday. "We're experiencing slightly cooler temperatures compared to yesterday when we were quite warm with readings in the upper 60s. Today, we'll likely see temperatures in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees."

Hickok noted that while the early part of the week will maintain seasonably cool temperatures, a warming trend is expected to begin by Wednesday, with highs reaching the mid-70s and continuing through the weekend.

"Looking ahead to the remainder of the week, particularly for Christmas Day on Thursday, we anticipate predominantly sunny skies," he explained. "The primary pattern will involve steadily increasing temperatures. For comparison, the normal temperature for Christmas Day typically hovers around 60 degrees, meaning this year's forecast is approximately 10 to 15 degrees warmer than an average late December day. It will be substantially warmer than what is usually expected, even for this region during the holiday season."
