New Naval Vessels Unveiled
On Monday, President Donald Trump revealed plans for what he termed the US Navy's "Golden Fleet," introducing two new Trump-class battleships. The announcement was made during a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida, attended by Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, Navy Secretary John Phelan, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Trump emphasized that these vessels would be "AI-controlled" and equipped with "lasers," with design leadership from the US Navy incorporating his aesthetic preferences. He stated, "We're desperately in need of ships, and I have approved a plan for the Navy to begin construction of two large battleships. We used to build the Iowa, the Missouri, the Alabama. These will be 100 times the force and power. Each one of these will be the largest battleships built in the history of our country."
According to the president, the initial ship will be named the USS Defiant, as confirmed by Phelan, with posters of the warship displayed at the event. Trump projected that eventually "20 to 25" of these Trump-class ships would be produced, with construction commencing "immediately."
The US Navy noted that these battleships will be three times the size of an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer and capable of launching Conventional Prompt Strike hypersonic missiles and the Surface Launch Cruise Missile-Nuclear.
