During the AmericaFest gathering hosted by Turning Point USA on Sunday, Vice President JD Vance made disparaging remarks about Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett from Texas.
Vance's Comments at the Event
While addressing the audience, Vance mocked Democrats for their potential 2028 presidential candidates, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris. He then turned his attention to Crockett, who recently launched a campaign to challenge Republican Senator John Cornyn in Texas.
"And Jasmine Crockett. Oh, Jasmine Crockett," Vance said, eliciting boos from the crowd. "The record speaks for itself. She wants to be a senator, though her street girl persona is about as real as her nails."
Crockett's Swift Retort
Crockett quickly responded on social media platform X, criticizing Vance's focus on superficial matters. She highlighted his political rise, noting, "Imagine commenting on someone’s nails while at the same time ignoring that the only reason you got your political ‘dream’ job was because your boss incited a violent mob who wanted to hang your predecessor for, oh, I don’t know, honoring his oath to the Constitution?!"
This reference pointed to Vance's appointment as vice president after Donald Trump parted ways with Mike Pence, who refused to support overturning the 2020 election results.
In her post, Crockett urged Vance to concentrate on more pressing issues, stating, "How about you stop worrying about me, until we are on the Senate floor together & work to stop your boss from bankrupting our country while engaging in the largest corruption scheme we’ve ever seen?!"
History of Confrontations
Crockett has previously faced similar personal attacks from Republicans. Last year, during a House Oversight Committee hearing, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene insulted Crockett's "fake eyelashes," to which Crockett retorted by mocking Greene's appearance as a "bleach-blonde, bad-built, butch body."
