Authorities have brought attempted murder charges against a 12-year-old boy following a violent altercation at a Brooklyn playground on Thursday afternoon. The incident involved the stabbing of another 12-year-old, who is currently receiving medical treatment and reported to be in stable condition.
Scene of the Attack
The stabbing took place at approximately 2:50 p.m. within Betsy Head Park, located near Thomas S Boyland Street and Dumont Avenue in the Brownsville neighborhood. Following the school-related fight, investigators discovered a small but dangerous-looking knife alongside a backpack, jacket, and blood-stained clothing behind police tape at the playground.
Investigation Underway
Law enforcement sources indicate the attack may have been retaliatory, possibly connected to an earlier dispute in the same park area near local schools. Police detained another 12-year-old and a 9-year-old for questioning as the park cleared out after the incident.
"And it hurts my heart because no parent should have go through that, hearing your kid was stabbed after school. That's devastating," neighbor Jordan Tucker said.
Additional Incidents
This was not the only youth-related stabbing requiring emergency response on Thursday. Later that evening, around 5 p.m., authorities responded to reports of a group of teenagers fighting near Ridgewood on Seneca Avenue. In that separate incident, a 15-year-old and a 13-year-old were hospitalized following another stabbing.
Residents expressed surprise at the violence, noting that children typically appear safe while playing in the area after school hours.
