According to the U.S. Department of Labor, initial filings for unemployment benefits in Michigan decreased last week compared to the previous week.

New jobless claims, which serve as an indicator of layoffs, declined to 10,370 for the week ending December 13, down from 12,529 the week before.

On a national level, seasonally adjusted unemployment claims fell to 224,000 last week, a decrease of 13,000 from 237,000 the prior week.

Rhode Island experienced the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with a jump of 46.8%. In contrast, Georgia saw the largest percentage decrease, with new claims dropping by 50.4%.
