With Christmas Eve just hours away, The Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania Division has collected $1,859,595 in contributions for its annual Red Kettle Campaign. This amount represents approximately 81% of the organization's $2,303,000 fundraising target.
These donations fund vital community services across 28 counties, including food assistance, housing and utility support, seasonal aid, youth programs, and spiritual guidance. In Allegheny County, the campaign has generated $374,703, achieving over 71% of the county's $527,000 objective.
Several local Salvation Army centers have experienced reduced donations compared to previous years, creating an urgent need for increased community support. Centers in Allegheny Valley (Brackenridge), Greensburg, and North Boroughs (Pittsburgh) are especially affected and require additional contributions to maintain essential programs for vulnerable populations.
Major Marcus Jugenheimer, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania, stated, "As we enter the final hours of this critical fundraiser, we would like to take a moment to thank all of our supporters and volunteers for their incredible generosity. Your time and treasures make a big difference." He emphasized that continued donations are crucial to providing a safety net for the community's most vulnerable residents throughout the coming year.
The Salvation Army is urging the public to make final contributions before the campaign concludes.
